Evmos is designed to be interoperable with the Cosmos Ecosystem through the Inter Blockchain Communication Protocol (IBC). IBC is the backbone for a number of cross-chain applications, facilitating token transfers, interchain accounts, non-fungible token transfers and oracle data feeds.

EVM Compatible

Evmos makes it easy for smart contracts to deploy and communicate within the Cosmos ecosystem. Evmos is built to support an ERC20 converter into Cosmos SDK-based coins and vice-versa. It also integrates a bridge between Evmos and Ethereum mainnet, allowing tokens to be sent seamlessly between the two networks.

Cosmos SDK Based

Evmos is built on top of the Cosmos SDK. It enables the full composability and modularity of Cosmos SDK.

  • IBC is an interoperability protocol for communicating arbitrary data between arbitrary state machines. It is currently a safe and secure means of moving assets across blockchains, unlocking interoperability. Evmos will become the first IBC-compatible EVM-based chain.

  • Tendermint is a general purpose blockchain consensus engine that can host arbitrary application states. This consensus engine, called Tendermint Core, is the backbone of the Evmos blockchain. It ensures the same transactions are recorded on every machine in the same order.

  • ABCI stands for “Application Blockchain Interface”. ABCI is the interface between Tendermint (a state-machine replication engine) and your application (the actual state machine). It is what allows Evmos to replace Ethereum’s proof-of-work via. Tendermint.
