What problem is Flare addressing?
According to the Flare website, ~ 65% of the value of Blockchain Tokens is inaccessible to Decentralised Applications. Many cryptocurrencies, such as XRP, Litecoin and Dogecoin, do not support smart contracts which can be used in a trustless manner. Flare delivers a smart contract solution for certain cryptocurrencies. Flare brings together the value of the non-Turing complete tokens with the transformative power of smart contracts on a network that can scale for value as well as transaction throughput.
What is a Flare address?
Flare uses the Ethereum Virtual Machine for smart contracts. Flare addresses are Ethereum style addresses that use the same key derivation scheme. Flare addresses are not “on” the Ethereum blockchain.
What is Songbird?
Songbird is the canary network for Flare. This canary network will have real economic value on the line, as represented by the SGB token. This is similar to Kusama being the canary network for Polkadot. This is designed to test new features of the blockchain before they are introduced on the main Flare network.
