The Babylon Bitcoin staking protocol aligns the incentives of bitcoin holders with the demand for network security from Proof-of-Stake (PoS) systems, such as PoS chains, L2s, Data Availability layers, oracles, and others - all without relying on intermediaries.
As part of its roadmap, Babylon Bitcoin Staking Phase-1, Cap-3 opens on December 10th, 2024, around 11AM UTC. This introduces new limits, updated points, and longer duration.
The Babylon Bitcoin staking protocol launched with Phase-1: Bitcoin Locking, where bitcoin holders securely stake through self-custodial scripts on the Bitcoin blockchain. This phase initiated the staking process, locking bitcoins while delegating voting power to finality providers for future Proof-of-Stake (PoS) participation, without the need for trusted third parties.
Currently, Babylon participants in the staking process can accrue staking points.
Cap-3 introduces a 1,000 BTC block duration-based cap (~1 week). During this period, all valid staking transactions are accepted without a total value locked (TVL) restriction.
Following the success of Cap-1 and Cap-2, Cap-3 is another opportunity for institutional BTC holders to participate in staking, and secure points. Both caps to date filled up quickly, highlighting Babylon’s growing popularity within the staking industry. Institutions that join early can maximize their staking points and gain a first-mover advantage in the ecosystem.
